Berwens
Before they came to us, Berwens and his older brother Ezikiel were in the care of their father, who spent long days looking for work. Unable to afford childcare or school, the boys were left home alone, scrounging for any food they could find on the street in front of the shack where they lived.
Though Berwens still struggles with reading and writing, he’s largely caught up with his education. He has developed a real passion for math, and he continues to practice his literacy skills every day.
This shy boy has opened up a lot in his time here. He loves playing soccer with the other boys, and he loves helping us cook and clean. One day, he’d like to become a doctor and come back and help at The Vertile House. We’re lucky to have such a fabulous young man in our midst!
